About

Welcome to Premier Car Audio

Ann Arbor’s Mobile Electronics Experts

In the 90’s, at the height of the aftermarket industry, Matt moved to Lansing to work at Car Stereo One. He learned the fundamentals of 12 volt electronics, as well as how to build boxes and work with fiberglass. After an untimely closing in 2005, Matt got a job at the main competition at the time: House of Car Stereo on Pennsylvania Ave. Matt worked with talented installers and picked up more experience with custom installations. Unfortunately, the business went the way of most other Car Stereo shops of the time.

While in Lansing, Matt went back to college to earn a degree in Audio Engineering. He finished with a 3.8 GPA (especially impressive if you knew him in high school) and won a scholarship through the Michigan Broadcasting Association. He also earned his MECP Certification, and State of Michigan Automotive Electrical Repair license.

Matt worked for years in automotive repair before ultimately making his way back to his true passion – Car Audio.

We’ve been working towards the opening of Premier Car Audio since writing our first business plan in 2014. We opened our first shop on Stadium blvd in Ann Arbor in 2018. Since then, we have moved and then expanded to a shop with store frontage and windows!

We love what we do, and it shows. Stop by and check out our new space!

Meet our team!

Matt Shepard (Owner) has been installing car stereos since he was 9, – yep- 4th grade-  his first in a 1983 Mustang in the backyard of his parents’ home in northern Michigan. There wasn’t a lot to do in the small town, so Matt kept busy working on vintage cars that his father acquired. A hard worker from an early age, Matt saved up his earnings and bought his first car at age 15, a 1965 Chevelle with an in-line 6 motor. He’s currently working on rebuilding this classic.

Lisa Barshaw – co-owner and author of this about page -If you’ve called us on the phone, there’s a pretty good chance that you’ve talked to me. (Hopefully I was helpful!) I’ve learned a lot over all the years that Matt has been in the industry, but taking on a tech position in the bay has taught me so much more.

I’m licensed in BAIID installation and Automotive Electrical in the state of Michigan. I’m still learning, but getting a better understanding of electrical systems (and sound in general) every day.

Matt and I have 4 awesome kids together (none of whom seem interested in car audio). We have all been working like crazy to make this business the best it can be, and our kids have been helpful and patient through it all. Our core values for the business are the same as the values we have in our family life: honesty, kindness, constant learning, and hard work.

We also value professionalism and attention to detail. This is what we hope will set us apart in the industry.

  • We have high standards
  • We do professional installations
  • We take our time and do it right

Thanks to everyone who has taken a chance on us, and to those of you who haven’t, give us a try- you won’t be disappointed!
