What to know about buying new speakers
Whether you’re replacing a blown factory speaker, or looking for better sound for your stereo, finding the best options can be daunting. Here’s a quick overview of the types of speakers:
Coaxials are full range speakers, basically combining the component set into one. They work well for replacing OEM speakers, or in areas where space is limited. Factory speakers are often made of lower quality material such as paper. Upgrading your factory speakers to aftermarket sets can be an inexpensive way to boost your sound.
Component speakers break down the sound spectrum into different sections. Tweeters generally cover the range between 2,000 and 20,000 Hz.
Mid-range speakers usually cover between 300 and 5,000 Hz.
Woofers cover the spectrum between 40 and 1,000 Hz.
Having different speakers for each frequency range offers a fuller sound.
